Okell’s Manx Pale Ale (or MPA if you’re into the whole brevity thing) is a 3.6% ABV pale ale from the famous brewery located on the Isle of Man.

The beer was sampled at this year’s Stockport Beer Festival and it was my first try of the MPA and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised.

The ale poured a straw blonde colour and as seems to be the case with many blonde type beers at the moment I expected a muddled, grassy type of taste with little aroma. I was completely wrong.

The Manx Pale Ale had a lovely hoppy, citrusy nose and this was carried through to the palate with a distinctly tropical flavour with hints of mango, passion fruit and a slight bitterness. The aftertaste was characteristically dry for a pale ale and left the mouth feeling refreshed.

The MPA is on the low side in terms of alcohol content, but that certainly isn’t the case taste wise.

It made for very easy drinking and is now a particular favourite session beer when I’m in the Okell’s pub Thomas Rigby’s in Liverpool. Recommended.
